Type 1 Diabetes is when the body no longer produces any insulin. Insulin is the key to the body’s cells, it allows the glucose to enter and be used as energy. But without insulin the glucose has no way of entering the body’s cells so instead builds up in the blood.
There isn’t age discrimination for developing type 1 diabetes but it is more common in childhood, and the signs will have usually shown themselves before the age of 40. This will be treated with daily insulin injections, and made easier with a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
There is many website which offer help and support to people who not only have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes but also people who live with people who have been diagnosed.
